PAMPLEMOUSSE

The Chronic Identity Crisis of Pamplemousse (Creative Producer)

Pamplemousse the grapefruit is upset. And lonely.

His mouse neighbours aren’t very friendly unless he’s crying sweet juicy tears and what makes it worse is he can’t squeeze through their mousehole to try to get to know them. Will he ever find someone who likes him just as he is?

The heartening tale of Pamplemousse’s identity crisis, set against evocative and playful music by local composer Greg Caffrey, was performed by the NI Opera Studio and the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble, touring to venues across Northern Ireland in a six county tour.

"With each performance preceded by a music and craft workshop, NI Opera have gone to a lot of effort to maximise the accessibility of the production, with a programme that answers questions, and a playful set that young audience members want to invade at the end... Pamplemousse is hopefully the start of another annual opera performance aimed at the youngest audiences who can easily engage with the colourful, larger-than-life characters and surreal situations." - Alan Meban

"Despite its economy of scale and slender resources, The Chronic Identity Crisis of Pamplemousse is an enchanting, engaging chamber opera in miniature that also manages to be charming, lively, thoughtful and fun." - Michael Quinn, British Theatre Guide
